Equine out of hours

Our normal office hours for the equine department are 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday.  The main surgery is open 8am to 7pm Mon-Fri and 8.30am to 12 noon on Saturdays to collect drugs or make an appointment.  The equine emergency mobile phone will be answered out with the normal equine hours on 07810564020.  If the duty vet is busy dealing with another emergency please stay on the phone and the call will be diverted to our pager service.

Avondale Vet Group has 2 vets trained in emergency rescue techniques.

We have facilities for hospitalisation and intensive care monitoring for equines ranging from Miniature Shetlands to Clydesdales.

We have stocks for reproductive work which can be used for standing surgical procedures and dental procedures.

Our state of the art walk on scales allows horses to be weighed accurately to monitor weight and provide accurate dosing of medication.  This weighing service is available to our client’s horses when they attend the surgery for any procedure.

Outside we have a large secure soft lunging area and quiet trot up areas for evaluating lameness.

TransportationVeterinary Transportation

We have purchased an Ifor Williams horse trailer to assist with transportation issues for our clients. We are aware that not every client has transport; this is why we have purchased the trailer to take the worry out of transportation to and from the surgery or to vet school. Transportation is available only to registered clients and at a competitive rate.

Avondale Veterinary Group is very fortunate to be located within easy reach of the 2 Scottish Veterinary Schools. The Weipers Centre for Equine Welfare (Glasgow University) provides a full surgical and medical referral service by specialists.  The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies (Edinburgh University) provides a similar service.  As well as experienced surgeons carrying out colic surgery, for example, these institutions can provide intensive care post-operatively and critical care management.  They have access to state of the art equipment and contact with other specialists around the world.
