Beka graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2011 and spent the next two years in mixed practice, with particular enthusiasm in working with the equine patients and owners. During this time, she developed a keen interest in equine dentistry and returned to the University of Glasgow to complete a PhD focused on the microbiological and immunological aspects of equine periodontal disease. She then moved to the University of Edinburgh in 2016 and she has spent the last four years undertaking a residency in equine dentistry, one of only two such programs run in Europe. This training will enable her to become a European Specialist in Equine Dentistry in the near future (after passing some tricky exams!).
She has published several research papers and presented work internationally on equine periodontal disease and complications of equine dental extractions but she is particularly happy seeing patients and improving equine welfare through dentistry. When Beka is not at work she enjoys trail running, mountain biking and hill walking with her husband and their two Jack Russell Terriers, Alfie and Lily.
